The Power of Aphrodisiacs: Myth or Magic?

Gearing up for a Friday date night?
Nothing spells sexy like an intimate dinner for two with a serving of oysters and champagne, both believed to be aphrodisiacs. Aphrodisiacs refer to any food or substance that are believed to increase sexual desire and enhances sexual performance.
The word aphrodisiac comes from Aphrodite of the Greek mythology, who is the Goddess of love and beauty. There hasn't really been scientific proof that aphrodisiacs ignite sexual desire and improve sexual performance, though both oysters and champagne have chemical components that are believed to help with boosting people's libido.
Oysters are generally known as aphrodisiacs and have been linked to love and sexuality for thousands of years. They have to be one of the most popular aphrodisiacs in most cultures around the world. The first aphrodisiacs were those that resembled the physical appearance of sex organs, this is why the the oyster’s moist and soft-textured appearance similar to that of a female sex organ may be the original reason for its erotic reputation. Biologically, the chemical properties of oysters include rare amino acids that is said to trigger increased levels of sex hormones. Oysters are also high in zinc, which helps in the production of testosterone, resulting in a higher sperm count and increased blood flow to the male's sexual organ.
Alcohol on the other hand, is known to lower inhibitions, with bubbly champagne hitting the blood stream more quickly than your standard wine. This gives your body a light but heady dose of intoxication, lowering down your reserves and putting you in a more relaxed and casual mood.
Regardless of whether oysters and champagne do work, the power of suggestion, mentally and psychophysically, is a great factor. Feasting on oysters and champagne suggests a kind of intimacy between two people, unlike sharing burgers and fries which two platonic friends can hang out over without any indication or suggestive undertones of wishing for any action later on. Generally speaking, a guy would not order these with you if he does not have anything else in mind.
The one thing you must remember is to not overdo it. Eating more oysters and drinking more champagne than you can handle may make your date more bust than banging. Sexual attraction is as much a psychological as it is a physical response, and aphrodisiacs may help, but you have to do your part as well.
